How to calculate a test grade
Divide correct answers by total questions, or points earned by points possible, then multiply by 100. The calculator shows the percentage, fraction, active letter grade, and the minimum needed for a chosen target.
Use the Grade Calculator & Easy Grader when you are grading a stack and want a full printable chart. This page stays focused on converting one assessment and checking its target.
How many questions can I miss?
The calculator multiplies your target percentage by the total number of questions and rounds the required correct count upward. On a 25-question test, 80% requires at least 20 correct answers, so you can miss at most 5.
When points are divisible into whole units, the exact point requirement and next whole-point requirement are both shown.
Questions versus points
Questions mode assumes equally valued questions. Use Points mode when questions have different values, the test includes partial credit, or the teacher reports a points total. If a decimal question value is used, treat it as a point-equivalent question and verify that this matches the scoring policy.
Test grade FAQs
How is a test score calculated?
Correct answers or earned points are divided by the total possible and multiplied by 100.
What percentage is X out of Y?
Enter X as correct or earned and Y as the total. The live result gives the exact percentage.
How many questions can I miss and still get 80% or 90%?
Enter the test total and target. GradeCompute rounds the required correct count upward and reports the maximum wrong count.
Can I use decimal or half-point scores?
Yes. Points mode supports decimals, and decimal question equivalents can represent partial credit.
Why can a displayed rounded score differ from the letter threshold?
Display rounding happens after calculation. The unrounded score determines the letter unless round-before-letter is enabled.
When should I use the Easy Grader instead?
